Abstract:
This dataset consists of 16 polygons representing river basin boundaries that intersect the State of Georgia. These 16 polygons represent the 14 river basin boundaries defined by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for use in planning purposes (commonly referred to as "the DNR Basins"). The boundaries were compiled using the 1:24,000 HUC boundaries provided by USGS Water Resources Division - Doraville, Georgia.
Purpose:
To provide a boundary dataset of the DNR Basins at 1:24,0000 scale.

1:24,000 12-digit HUC boundaries were downloaded from the Georgia GIS Data Clearinghouse, decompressed and imported into ESRI coverage format from interchange (.e00) file format. This coverage was then converted into ESRI shapefile format.

Using ArcInfo ArcMap 8.2, features / records within the HUC12_Shapefile were selected and encoded with values indicating inclusion within appropriate DNR Basin boundaries. These features / records were then aggregated and dissolved using the desktop geoprocessing menu. DNR Basin boundaries were then checked against USGS 7.5' topographic quadrangles to verify appropriate DNR Basin boundary assignments for each HUC boundary.
