General GEOS FAQ

  • Can I continue filling out the application without selecting a facility in the dropdown box?

Yes. You may save your application as you proceed through the sections, your application will not pass validation until you have a facility selected. You will also not be able to submit your application for RO approval if you are a preparer or submit to EPD if you are an RO until a facility is selected.

  • Do I have to use GEOS to submit applications or can I continue to submit paper applications?

Depending on the application type you may be required to use GEOS. The schedule requiring submittals through GEOS is as follows: EPD Air Branch began requiring all applications to be submitted through GEOS beginning August 1, 2015. EPD Watershed Protection Branch began requiring all NPDES Municipal Wastewater applications to be submitted through GEOS beginning January 1, 2016. Underground Storage Tanks Annual Tank Registration will be done in GEOS in 2017; see step-by-step instructions. The Industrial General Permit for Stormwater Discharges had a hard deadline of June 30, 2017 for submittal of Notices of Intent (NOI) or No Exposure Exclusion (NEE) for coverage under the new permit. Even though the deadline has passed, you can still submit late NOI and NEE. Authorization to discharge is not retroactive, and late submittals can be subject to enforcement. Please submit your late NOI and NEE as quickly as possible. The Industrial Stormwater NOI and NEE forms have been online and functional since May 31, 2017. If you have problems with your forms, or if you have any questions, please contact EPD Stormwater. Environmental Assurance Fee (EAF) Remitter Submission Instructions are now available; see step-by-step instructions. Tire fee reports now can be found in GEOS. After January 1, 2018, paper copies will no longer be mailed to scrap tire generators. Scrap tire processors and sorters will be required to submit their quarterly reports in GEOS beginning January 1, 2018. Tire carriers will be required to submit their quarterly reports in GEOS beginning July 1, 2018. All other application types in GEOS are optional at this time; however, you are encouraged to use GEOS as it has many benefits.

  • I am finished entering data on a popup but I cannot find a way to exit out of the popup. What do I do?

If this occurs save your work and then click “Cancel”. More than likely, you will need to return and enter additional data to this popup as the system will generally exit you automatically once all necessary data is entered and you click save.

  • I have multiple permits which have similar information. Is there any way to copy a permit?

On some applications this is possible. Select the “Submittal” section along the top menu bar. Then select “Track Submitted Submittals” on the left side bar menu. Now select the submittal you are interested in copying. Once you have selected the submittal depending on the application type a button will be available at the top called “Copy Submittal”. When you select this a copy is made with a new application ID but all information from the original is carried over.

  • My facility does not appear in the drop-down list in my application. What do I do?

If you are a Responsible Official (RO) user, then you need to associate your user account with your facility and mail in your signed Subscriber Agreement to EPD so that you will be authorized for your facility. At that point it will show up in your Application(s). If you are a Preparer user, you need to contact your RO and have them associate your account with your facility. For more information about this, see the Getting Started: A Basic GEOS Guide.

  • When filling out my application none of the pollutants are showing up for my facility. Did I do something wrong?

More than likely the issue is that you either missed or skipped a prior section that is used to populate these values. GEOS is designed where everything is filled out in order so that as a user progresses through the form the appropriate answers appear in later sections.
