The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) provides information on municipal sewage spills reported to EPD.  The list covers the most recent 30-day period and is updated each business day with all available information. 

Note: A "zero" in the quantity field indicates the amount of the spill has not been determined.

Spills/Bypass E-Reporting

EPD has shifted to electronic reporting for spills and bypasses using GEOS. All publicly owned treatment works should use GEOS to report sewer spills. Please reference the Public Guidance Document or the FAQs section below, or contact your compliance specialist with any questions regarding the spill form and spill submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am having problems setting up my GEOS account. How do I get assistance?

For all account issues and concerns, submit a request to [email protected] detailing what the account issue is. This includes, but is not limited to, username/password retrieval, forgot password email not received, problems setting up a GEOS account, and disassociating facilities from an account. 

  • I associated the wrong facility with my account. How do I change it?

Please send a request to [email protected] detailing which account needs to be removed. Users should associate the correct wastewater facility with their account to submit spill reports.

  • Can preparers submit on behalf of an RO?

No. All submittals completed by a preparer must be approved by an RO. Only ROs can create and submit reports. Entities should establish internal procedures on who will have preparer/RO access.

  • Can there be more than one RO for a facility?

Yes. There is no limit to the number of ROs for the spill report. Entities should establish internal procedures on who will have preparer/RO access.

  • What information is required for a 24-hour report?

Only the facility information, start date and time, and location of the spill are required for the 24-hour report, as stated in the Georgia Water Quality Rules. 

  • Should I start a new submittal for the 5-day report?

No. 24-hour and 5-day reports should be linked together. Please revise the 24-hour report to complete the 5-day report. Please reference Section 5 of the Public Guidance Document for detailed instructions and screenshots.

  • Information in my 24-hour report needs to be updated. Should I revise the 24-hour report?

No. Any information that needs to be corrected can be updated when the 5-day report is submitted.

  • How do I submit my stream sampling for major spills.

The sampling will be included as attachments for the 5-day reports. Please reference Section 6 of the Public Guidance Document for detailed instructions and screenshots.
