Office of the State Geologist

The Office of the Georgia State Geologist is housed within the Environmental Protection Division, Watershed Protection Branch. The State Geologist is Edward Rooks, and the Assistant State Geologist is Christine Voudy.  The function of the Office of State Geologist is to administer laws and regulations related to geology within the state, including water wells, boring, oil and gas exploration and deep well drilling.  The Assistant State Geologist is responsible for managing the groundwater availability resource assessment evaluation in the Regional Water Planning process, and in working with the Hydrology Unit on the development, utilization, and upgrading of EPD’s groundwater models.
