The Flint River Regional Water Development and Conservation Plan was completed in 2006 and has guided EPD’s agricultural water withdrawal permitting in the Lower Flint River basin since that time.  The Plan was based on detailed scientific analysis. It also drew on the input of a Technical Advisory Committee made up of scientists and specialists who have been working extensively in the Flint River Basin.  This committee provided technical assistance to a Stakeholder Advisory Committee composed of farmers and other stakeholders from southwest Georgia who have a strong interest in sustainable water management of the Flint River Basin.  The Stakeholder Advisory Committee, in turn, gave input to EPD in development of the Plan and of water management policy for the Flint River Basin.  The Plan serves to promote the conservation and reuse of water, guard against a shortage of water, and promote efficient use of the water resource. Since the Flint River Basin Plan was adopted, Georgia adopted a State Water Plan that established a statewide system of regional water planning.  By 2011, Regional Water Plans had been completed for every region of the state.  The 2006 Flint River Basin Plan provides a scientific and policy foundation for water resources planning in the basin and was incorporated in the 2011 Lower Flint-Ochlockonee Regional Water Plan by reference.  This was re-affirmed in the revised 2017 Lower Flint-Ochlockonee Regional Water Plan and the 2006 Plan continues to be implemented in coordination with that Plan.  The Lower Flint-Ochlockonee Regional Water Plan can be found at this website.
